This series of drawings was produced at the Taipei Artist Village Residency Programme in January 2013. The project was about reacting to the site & ideally arriving at a series of distilled or essential qualities, without recourse to the literal. Taipei is a very complicated place in many ways. What is straightforward though, is the architecture- functional, blunt, coarse and utterly without whimsy. So box like forms hover in fields of grey winter light. The work produced reflects the site and so differs significantly from earlier work.

My sincere gratitude to Asia New Zealand Foundation for supporting this project.
